Separate the egg whites from the yolks. Beat the yolks together with the sugar until the mixture turns light in color.

Mix the flour, applesauce, milk, and baking powder into the egg and sugar blend. Stir it all until smooth.

Whisk the egg whites until stiff, adding a tiny pinch of salt. Gently fold this into your batter.

Melt the chocolate. Then, blend half of your batter with the melted chocolate to create a chocolate layer.

Pour the plain and chocolate batters alternately into a loaf tin. Steam it for 50 minutes or bake it at 175°C for 35 minutes in the oven.
