In a big pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Toss in the onions and sprinkle them with the sugar. Stir now and then while cooking, letting them slowly turn golden and sweet over 20-25 minutes. If they start sticking, splash some beef stock into the pan and scrape it up.

Season the ground beef in a large bowl with Worcestershire sauce, plus some salt and pepper. Mix everything by hand until it's combined, then shape it into 4 equal patties.

Grill or cook the patties on a pan until you get the doneness you want.

If you'd like garlic butter buns, mix some softened butter with garlic, then spread it lightly on the buns. Toast them till they’re crispy and golden.

Start with the bottom bun, add a beef patty, layer on the onions, and place a slice of cheese on top.
