Juice half the orange to get 1/4 cup, making sure to zest it first.

Take out 1/2 cup of cranberries and set them aside for added texture later.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, juice, and the rest of the cranberries and bring to a simmer.

Lower the heat and let it cook for 15 minutes. Stir every now and then until cranberries pop and the mixture thickens.

Remove the saucepan from heat, then mix in the vanilla, zest, and the cranberries you set aside. It'll thicken as it cools.
