Grease a 20x20 cm baking dish with plenty of butter. Spread the potatoes evenly across the bottom.

Over medium heat, warm the milk, cream, salt, mustard, nutmeg, and pepper until well combined.

Stir in the cheddar cheese and keep mixing until it completely melts.

Pour the sauce over the potatoes and let it sit for a few minutes to cool slightly. Add the sliced butter and paprika on top.

Cover the dish and pop it in the fridge for at least 12 hours or overnight.

Preheat your oven to 175°C and bake it uncovered for 45 minutes.
