Peel the pears and cut them into slices. Make a golden caramel with the sugar, then mix in the butter followed by the pear slices.

Whip the butter and sugar until it looks pale and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Gradually fold in the flour mixed with baking powder and salt, alternating with the milk.

Layer the caramel-coated pears at the bottom of the pan. Pour the batter over the top. Bake at 180°C for 30-40 minutes.

Test the cake with a toothpick to make sure it's done. Take it out of the pan while still warm.
